The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The buzz about The Game Awards has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team might be designing a real-time experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, player agency, and flexible progression—qualities that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously flexible, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
